SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA MCDONALD’S® RESTAURANTS KICK OFF THE SCHOOL YEAR WITH FREE BREAKFAST FOR STUDENTS ON SEPTEMBER 9

Los Angeles, CA (September 2, 2014) – As students prepare for their first day of school across the Southland, Southern California McDonald’s restaurants are helping kickstart their year with a wholesome breakfast. On Tuesday, Sept. 9, participating restaurants will offer, free of charge, any breakfast sandwich, apple slices or Yoplait Go-Gurt low-fat strawberry yogurt, and milk to kindergarten through eighth grade students from 6:30-9:30 a.m. Students less than 13 yrs. of age are required to be accompanied by an adult when visiting a participating McDonald’s restaurant in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Ventura counties.
                “A strong source of protein at breakfast delivers the kind of energy students need to focus in the classroom all morning long," said Bonnie Modugno, MS, RD, consulting for Southern California McDonald’s.  "McDonald's line of breakfast sandwiches made with whole grain and served with apples and low-fat milk provides students the great start which can be a catalyst for eating well throughout the day."
                Students will have the choice of any breakfast sandwich including the Egg White Delight McMuffin, which features freshly grilled 100% egg whites, extra lean Canadian bacon and white cheddar on an English muffin made with eight grams of whole grain, or the classic Egg McMuffin, which is made with a freshly cracked Grade A egg, extra lean Canadian bacon and a slice of American cheese.
“McDonald’s is strongly committed to the well-being of children, and to mark the beginning of the new school year, we are excited to provide students a free breakfast meal to help them start their day off right,” said Clay Paschen, McDonald’s owner/operator and president of the McDonald’s Operators’ Association of Southern California (MOASC).  “At McDonald’s we support parents in encouraging their children to eat a hearty breakfast every day, and we think our breakfast muffin sandwiches are a great-tasting option with fresh, healthy ingredients that children are sure to enjoy.  ”
