Santa Monica, CA -- The Los Angeles Police Protective League, the union for the city's police officers, has announced their support for Ben Allen for the 26th District.
"After an extensive selection process, the LAPPL Board of Directors is proud to endorse Ben Allen for State Senate. In addition to Ben's commitment to affordable education and sustainable job creation, his pledge for public safety and a safe environment for all of us will be among his highest priorities. We look forward to a long and positive partnership," said Tyler Izen, President of the Los Angeles Police Protective League.
"The Los Angeles Police Department has helped drive crime rates to historic lows in our city, and over the years, the LAPPL has been instrumental in making sure that our police officers get the respect and support they deserve for their sacrifices and commitment to public safety. I'm proud to have the LAPPL's endorsement, and as state senator, I will prioritize public safety and support for our hard-working officers," said Ben Allen.
The Los Angeles Police Protective League has worked to better the working conditions of the city's police force since the early 1920s. Over the decades they have represented their members in city contracts, provided benefits for the families of slain officers, and founded scholarships for family dependents. Their advocacy has helped expand the Los Angeles Police Department and help drive crime down to record lows.
Every public safety organization that has endorsed in the race has endorsed Ben Allen for Senate. The LAPPL is just one of many organizations that have endorsed Ben Allen for Senate, such as the Los Angeles County Professional Peace Officers Association (LACPPOA), Santa Monica Police Officers Association (SMPOA), Santa Monica Firefighters IAFF Local 1109, and Peace Officers Research Association of California (PORAC). Allen is also supported by local elected officials, such as Los Angeles County Supervisors Zev Yaroslavsky and Don Knabe, as well as, Los Angeles City Councilmembers Paul Koretz, Tom LaBonge, and Paul Krekorian.
Ben Allen placed first among a crowded field in the open primary for the 26th State Senate District, held on June 3, 2014.
The 26th State Senate District consists of the cities of Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates, El Segundo, Avalon, Lomita, Torrance, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, and Beverly Hills; the Los Angeles neighborhoods of Marina Del Rey, Playa Del Rey, Westchester, Pacific Palisades, Brentwood, Westwood, Westwood Village, Bel Air, Holmby Hills, Little Holmby, Sunset Hills, Beverly Grove, Mar Vista, Mid City West, Miracle Mile, Larchmont Village, Hollywood, Hollywood Hills, Fairfax, Carthay, Fremont Place, Hancock Park, and Windsor Square; and the unincorporated Los Angeles County communities of Marina Del Rey, San Clemente Island, Santa Catalina Island, Franklin, Centinela, and Ocean View.
