General Officer Assignments



The chief of staff, Army announced today the following assignments:


Maj. Gen. Clarence K.K. Chinn, senior commander for Fort Bragg, North Carolina, to deputy commanding general, U.S. Army Special Operations Command, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.


Maj. Gen. Camille M. Nichols, deputy commanding general for operations and chief of staff, Installation Management Command, Joint Base San Antonio, Texas, to director, business operations, Office of Business Transformation, Office of the Under Secretary of the Army, Washington, District of Columbia.


Maj. Gen. Jefforey A. Smith to deputy commanding general, XVIII Airborne Corps, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Smith most recently served as deputy chief of staff, operations, International Security Assistance Force, Afghanistan.


Maj. Gen. Richard L. Stevens, deputy commanding general for military and international operations, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Washington, District of Columbia, to deputy chief of engineers and deputy commanding general, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Washington, District of Columbia.


Maj. Gen. John F. Wharton to commanding general, U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command, Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. Wharton most recently served as commanding general, U.S. Army Sustainment Command, Rock Island Arsenal, Illinois.


Brig. Gen. Kurt L. Sonntag, deputy commanding general, U.S. Army Special Operations Command, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, to commander, Special Operations Command South, U.S. Southern Command, Homestead Air Reserve Base, Florida.


Brig. Gen. Mark S. Inch to provost marshal general and commanding general, U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command and Army Corrections Command, Washington, District of Columbia. Inch most recently served as commander, Combined Joint Interagency Task Force 435, Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan.
