LOS ANGELES, CA (September 3, 2014) – Slingshot Global Media announced today that they have entered into a first look deal with El Jefe, the brand new production company from novelists Brian McGreevy (Hemlock Grove), Lee Shipman (Hemlock Grove), and Philipp Meyer (The Son).
The production company will be based in Los Angeles, with an aim to identify projects that will transition acclaimed novelists into creators of scripted television.
"McGreevy, Shipman, and Meyer are talented writers who have proven themselves as entrepreneurial producers," said David Ellender, CEO of Slingshot Global Media. "We can't wait to begin working together to develop television shows that appeal to today's audience."
El Jefe have already optioned two major novels as part of their deal. The first of these projects is American Rust, Meyer's acclaimed debut novel that revolves around a troubled Police Chief with a history of violence, struggling with his sense of honor in a small Pennsylvanian community being torn apart by a shocking murder. The second project is Vanished, Wil S. Hylton's stirring narrative about the 60 year search for American bombers who went missing after their plane was downed during World War II.
McGreevy, Shipman and Meyer met as students at the prestigious James A. Michener Writing Fellowship at the University of Texas at Austin. This production company isn't the first collaboration for this group. McGreevy, Shipman and Meyer recently signed on to adapt Meyer's novel, The Son, for a television series on AMC. McGreevy and Shipman also created Netflix's successful series, Hemlock Grove, based on the novel written by McGreevy. McGreevy, Shipman and Meyer will executive produce all of the projects they bring to Slingshot Global Media.
"In forming this company, we set out to do something groundbreaking and knew that our ambitions would best fit the television space," McGreevy, Shipman and Meyer said in a collective statement. "We can't imagine being in business with a better company than Slingshot Global Media for this new venture."
This announcement comes on the heels of Slingshot Global Media announcing the television series they are developing entitled Rain.
