Big Bear Village Scarecrow Festival Sets Tone for Festive Fall Atmosphere
BIG BEAR LAKE, Calif./September 12, 2014 – This fall, Big Bear guests will be greeted by dozens of scarecrows on display throughout Big Bear Village during the Inaugural Big Bear Village Scarecrow Festival that takes place Friday, September 26 to Wednesday, November 19, 2014. Participating Big Bear Village merchants will display homemade scarecrow creations outside of their shops, boutiques and restaurants to give Big Bear's shopping district a festive autumn atmosphere. Merchants will compete for best scarecrow in eight different categories, which includes best reflection of Big Bear, most traditional, spookiest, best action, best use of recycled material, most reflective of business or organization, most humorous and best use of natural materials.
"Most of our merchants are very creative, and some tend to have a competitive side to them. That alone ought to get the creative juices flowing," said Wendy Badger, chairman of Big Bear Village Scarecrow Festival. "Expect to see some outlandish, eccentric scarecrows to beautiful works of art! It's going to be fun for both merchants and shoppers."
Various styles of scarecrows will be on display for seven and a half weeks starting September 26 and ending on November 19, 2014. Winners of each scarecrow category will be determined by votes from the general public. The final day for voting is Thursday, October 30, 2014. An awards ceremony takes place Friday, October 31, 2014 during the Annual Halloween in the Village. Ballots and maps are available throughout the village at participating merchants and at the Big Bear Visitors Center located at 630 Bartlett Road.
